Mutton Mandi is a traditional meat and rice dish from the Middle East and is fondly eaten all over the Arabian Peninsula. The word Mandi comes from the Arabic word, nada, it means dew and reflects the dewy flavor of the meat used in preparing the dish. Its precise origin is Yemen, but now it is eaten in many parts of the Asian subcontinent including Pakistan and some parts of India. The traditional Mutton Mandi recipe is prepared by roasting mutton from a small sized and young lamb, to further enhance its flavor. Sometimes Mandi is also prepared using chicken, but the traditional Mandi dish consists of mutton prepared in a tandoor. Raisins, almonds, cashews and nuts are also added for garnishing.
